28 August 2025 ~ Three Good Things

I'm probably late to the party, but I've recently discovered Substack and subsequently 3 Good Things. How lovely to have a simple daily reminder of some of the good things that make life a little better. I will admit that I am greatly behind the curve in this as it seems that 3 Good Things has already celebrated it's ten year anniversary. So, I suppose that this is a better late than never kind of discovery.

Rain
Raymond Carver

Woke up this morning with
a terrific urge to lie in bed all day
and read. Fought against it for a minute.

Then looked out the window at the rain.
And gave over. Put myself entirely
in the keep of this rainy morning.

Would I live my life over again?
Make the same unforgiveable mistakes?
Yes, given half a chance. Yes.

Thursday:

1. The beauty of rainy weather. I was up for a good part of of the night with some lovely thunderstorms and this morning is dark and overcast and wonderfully dreary. This is the weather I absolutely love.

2. Soup Weather - Soup is like a hug in a bowl. When soup weather hits (even if it's for just for a short respite from the summer heat). Yesterday, Cheyenne made Lasagna Soup for staff lunch and Jeremy made Shipwreck Stew for dinner. Today I get to have leftover Lasagna Soup for lunch and I'm making Chicken Enchilada Soup for dinner.

3. Clean Sheets - there is something that just feels extra cozy about a bed made with fresh clean sheets. Yesterday Jeremy washed the sheets while I was at work and snuggling in last night felt lovely. Waking up this morning in a cozy bed with clean sheets was an extra bonus to an already cozy morning.
